Long Story Less Short
Loftän is a female pop music duo based in Eugene, Oregon. Janell Riedl, an Oregon native, and Julia Mahncke, a recent transplant from Germany, met in the summer of 2015 at a Pilates studio, where Janell was working. It’s where she not only fixed Julia after a surgery gone wrong but where they also discovered each other's love for music. Their indie/folk/pop sound is based around the two women's vocal harmonies and catchy melodies. Despite growing up more than 5000 miles apart with different musical influences, they have quickly found a way to compliment each other's songwriting.
Julia brings to the table a degree in musicology, endless hours of listening to her mom's records from the 60s and a passion for learning new instruments.
Janell's background is in vocal performance and musical theatre. Her pathway took her to Chicago and Los Angeles where she performed with various bands and recorded an EP. Two of her songs have been featured in the movie Deceit.
When they don't work on their music, they enjoy eating popcorn. The sweet kind. In excessive quantities. In an attempt to test whether or not one can actually sustain life from ingesting solely popped corn kernels.
They released their debut EP “From Here” on July 16, 2016.
Since then they’ve been playing live shows, releasing music videos and vlogs on YouTube. Loftän has performed at festivals such as the Willamette Valley Music Festival and the Arts and the Vineyard Festival - both in Eugene - and performed at radio and tv stations such as KRVM and KWVA in Eugene and CCTV in Salem.
They are currently working on writing and recording new songs.
